Honor Flights of Connecticut

Good Afternoon All, State Commander Ken Hartline and and State Auxiliary President Maureen Ducat, presented a check this morning for $10,000 to Matt Sparks the CEO of Honor Flight Connecticut. This donation was made possible by the many posts that sent in a donation to this the State Commanders Special project, a donation from the State VFW Auxiliary and the Patriots Golf Tournament funds. They are hoping to start flying as many WWII Veterans to DC this fall to visit the monument that was built to remember their service and those buddies that paid the supreme sacrifice during that war. The cost to take a Veteran on that trip with all transportation here and in DC, along with meals is $350 per Veteran, so it is a whopping $35,000.00 per 100 Veterans. Southwest gives them a great deal and treats them like Kings and Queens. (RE: the picture at their terminal at Bradley.)

The State Commander has asked me to pass on his heartfelt thanks to those that donated, and encourages those who have not yet donated, to please feel free to do so, every dollar counts to get a Vet on this trip.

Mr. Sparks was overwhelmed with our donation and said it was the largest one ever given.

As yesterday's defenders of freedom, we want to welcome today's military service members into our ranks to become part of our elite group. Our common bond is the battlefield, whether it is service in the Persian Gulf, Korea, Kosovo, the war on terrorism or peace-keeping expeditionary campaigns. Your courage and sacrifice have made a difference in preserving and defending world peace.

Our programs support our service members while they are on the front line, as they are being discharged and long after they return. Your tax-deductible donation will be immediately directed to the VFW programs where your support is most urgently needed.
