Step 1: Check if your organization is already registered

Go to the Department of Consumer Protection website:

Scroll down to “Look Up a License.”

In the License Type drop-down menu, select Charity.

Search for your VFW Post, District, or Auxiliary.
If your organization does not appear in the search results:
Step 2: Start a new application

Return to https://www.elicense.ct.gov/

Select Initial Application.

If you don’t have an account, click “Don’t have an account? Register.”

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the registration process.
Step 3: Gather required information
You will need:

Your EIN number and proof of non-profit status from the IRS:

Your business entity information from the State of Connecticut:
https://service.ct.gov/business/s/onlinebusinesssearch?language=en_US
Step 4: Wait for approval
Once your application is submitted, approval typically takes 3–5 business days.
