DESCRIPTION:HARTFORD–As part of the official state observance of Independence Day\, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Connecticut is conducting appropriate ceremonies in the hall of flags of the Connecticut State Capitol at 9:00 a.m. on Friday\, July 4\, 2025. The event is free and open to the public. \nVFW State Commander Charles M. Pickett will be the master of ceremonies\, which includes a moving massing of the colors by state veteran organizations. The Connecticut Capitol Flag Preservationist from the office of Legislative Management Matthew Vallier is the principal speaker\, VFW State Patriotic Instructor Cynthia L. Riley will sing the National Anthem and “God Bless America\,” and the American Legion Department Color Guard\, led by Color Guard Captain Steve Fahy\, will present the colors. \nArrive around 8:30 a.m. as all attendees must pass through standard security screening.
