Teamwork ~ Leadership ~ Commitment

As yesterday's defenders of freedom, we want to welcome today's military service members into our ranks to become part of our elite group. Our common bond is the battlefield, whether it is service in the Persian Gulf, Korea, Kosovo, the war on terrorism or peace-keeping expeditionary campaigns. Your courage and sacrifice have made a difference in preserving and defending world peace.

Message:  The Connecticut State Museum of Natural History at UConn will conduct a free Archaeology Field School for Veterans and Active Duty Military Personnel on Monday, July 23 through Friday, July 27, 9 am to 3 pm each day. State Archaeologist Dr. Brian Jones will lead the field school, which will take place in Windsor, CT.

Veterans and active duty military personnel will spend a week doing hands-on archaeology at an Archaeology Field School sponsored by the Connecticut State Museum of Natural History and Office of State Archaeology. The field school will cover the basics of field methods, paperwork, data management, and artifact identification. Learning proper archaeological methods will develop the participantâ?Ts understanding of the ethical aspects of archaeology and the archaeologistâ?Ts responsibility to preserve the data they retrieve so that it will remain valuable to future researchers.

Participants of this program will have the opportunity to experience an official Connecticut Office of State Archaeology dig at a historic site in Windsor, Connecticut. Space is limited. To request a registration form please contact David Colberg at david.colberg@uconn.eduor 860.486.5690.

We have been doing field schools for educators and the general public, so we decided to add one for veterans and active duty military personnel. If this seem to be something you can share with the veterans you work with, please feel free to forward.
